Jacket Number One (Men)

€600.00

This is Sud’s foundational garment, designed to be an elegant but deeply wearable tailored jacket for women and men.

It is crafted in the Neapolitan tradition, with a relaxed, easy-wearing silhouette, minimal structure and a touch of drama in the shoulders. It is a three-season jacket, for wearing through spring, summer and early autumn.

Fit

  • Our jackets are cut to a slim but not tight fit, with a relatively nipped waist and generous sleeves. They look best unbuttoned (at least in our opinion).

  • Check our size guide to make sure you’re ordering the right size. We recommend sizing up for something slouchier and more expressive.

Fabric

  • Lot 1/24 is made up in a midweight, 260gsm summer wool (65%) / linen (35%) melange, woven in England by a fifth generation family-owned mill.

  • The colour is a gently mottled taupe, with traces of brick red and flecks of bone from the “slubs” in the linen. It has a soft hand and good drape, and is wonderfully light-feeling to wear.

Details

  • Light, floating canvas across the chest and no padding (only modest spallini in the women’s jacket, to help the shoulder profile).

  • Pronounced pleating (or mappina) at the shoulder (as the generous sleevehead has been hand-worked into the armhole, in a construction more common in a shirt sleeve, or spalla camicia). This is a typical Neapolitan flourish and makes every jacket unique.

  • Generous lapels, a “butterfly” lining on the interior, patch pockets at the waist and a welt pocket at the chest. We wanted nothing superfluous on the jacket, so there’s just one button at the cuff and no buttonhole on the lapel.

  • Made in Martina Franca, Puglia, in a small workshop of around eight artisans.

  • For more about where we manufacture, take a look at our journal.
